Semester 2

This course deals with the systems of communication among Africans prior to the introduction of modern modes of communication, as well as the emergence of contemporary media systems.  It also evaluates the current relevance of these systems amidst the current trend of globalization. Given the rapid strides in technological advancements, Africa is very much in a world dominated by electronic-driven technology with particular reference to media and communication studies. Hence, African Communication Systems will be discussed from its traditional foundations to modern communication systems, dominated by information communication systems and modalities.

Furthermore, the course creates an understanding and appreciation of the African continent; its geography, demography, economy, people(s) and cultural diversities. In doing so, certain aspects and concepts of African philosophy and Africanity will be discussed.
